Newsboys go to Baja

The Baja is a special place that seeps in under your skin and quickly works its way to your heart. At first glance it can be a dusty desert filled with cactus and rocks, but if you follow the trails through the canyons you will find a people and culture as warm as the desert sun. It is easy to fall in love with this land and it's beautiful people.

I first came down by invitation of the newsboys to this special place several years ago on a mission's trip. We would be riding motorbikes and looking for ways to help the poor in this region, two of my most favorite things to do with the boys.

I was introduced to their friend Bob Sanders, or Baja Bob as his friends call him. Baja Bob had been working in The Baja for several years ministering to the people of the peninsula God has called him to, building houses and sharing the gospel with everyone he came in contact with through his ministry called Baja Christian Ministries.

The Newsboys were rocking the world through the God given message in their music and Global Tribe, an international ministry started where Rock and Roll meets Missions. The Global Tribe goal is to raise an army of believers fighting the war on spiritual and physical poverty, supporting Christian leaders on the cutting edge of ministry, and fulfilling God's purpose in the great commission

Together they were creating a global base of dedicated fans and believers eager and willing to make a difference in the world. The newsboys found a friend and partner in Sanders and Baja Christian Ministries to come along side of in reaching those most in need. This partnership is changing the lives of thousands, rebuilding homes, communities, and sharing the gospel.

Over the last couple years, I have been down to The Baja on mission's trips with the boys and seen them work hand in hand with Global Tribe building homes in an area just outside the border town of Tijuana called "El Nino". El Nino is a barrio named after the massive storm that destroyed the homes and lives of hundreds of thousands of the most needy people. The barrio spread and grew to over a million, many of which were living well below the poverty level and existing on less than a dollar a day. The depressing effects of a broken economy soon took control of the area and a downward spiral both economically and spiritually was well underway. This was the perfect place to begin making a positive difference.
